Ngā Pae Maunga e toru
My work is intuitive. Often I don’t know how a work will emerge for me on the harakeke paper. So the stories are often revealed at the end or while I’m creating. And the creation of the paper itself is a part of that narrative. Ngā Pae Maunga e Toru - a reflection of maunga, mountains as pillars of strength and healing, the awa, the rivers that flow from them and the people who come from these mountains whose lives are dedicated to looking after these mountains, rivers and the whenua, the land on which they live, in the hope that it will be there for future generations.
Materials: koromiko, harakeke on harakeke paper. Untreated pine frame stained with native. (a deliberate act of reclamation of whenua and honouring rākau Māori)
