Kōrari

I am always in awe of the kōrari as it emerges at the end of winter from within the harakeke. And then it is there, in the sky already, reaching. Then the buds emerge to become flowers, followed by the seed pods that begin green and then become black on the stalk. Each of these stages of harakeke produces colour, all of which you see in these works.

Materials: harakeke, taupata, raurekau, koromiko on harakeke paper.

Untreated pine frame stained with Whataupoko whenua. (a deliberate act of reclamation of whenua and honouring rākau Māori)
